Dr. Harold E. Newman, president of Shorter College shakes hands with Robert H. Ledbetter, Sr.

February 4  - President Harold E. Newman, left, presents a resolution officially naming Shorter’s business programs the Robert H. Ledbetter College of Business. Longtime Rome businessman Robert H. Ledbetter Sr. is funding $1.5 million that will allow Shorter to locate its School of Business in the MidTown Crossing Shopping Center in the facility that formerly housed the Goody’s department store.

A longtime friend of Shorter College, Mr. Ledbetter is chairman and CEO of R.H. Ledbetter Properties, Inc. He is a supporter of the college’s athletic program and has served as both a trustee and a member of the Board of Visitors. Shorter’s national award-winning baseball complex also bears his name.

When renovation work is complete, the Ledbetter College of Business will occupy 30,250 square feet of space in the shopping center. The facility will be home to undergraduate programs in business, business programs in Professional Studies, and Rome-based support staff for Professional Studies. Current plans are to move into the facility before the beginning of the fall 2010 semester.
