Faculty and staff members actively prepared for the return of students on Friday, August 5, as they took part in a special Day of Mission. The day began with the group gathering in the front circle for a time of devotion led by Dean of the Chapel Dr. Aaron Werner. Then, the volunteers divided into teams to tackle tasks from scrubbing and cleaning fountains to weeding flower beds and spreading pine straw. Other services performed included picking up litter, pressure washing, cleaning doors and windows, and removing cob webs.
“What a marvelous way for our faculty and staff to demonstrate servant leadership in preparing our campus for our students,” said Shorter President Dr. Don Dowless, who worked alongside Trustee Chairman Dr. Nelson Price on the pressure washing crew. “It was a fabulous day of fellowship and teambuilding while performing a great service. I appreciate their hard work.
Students will begin arriving on campus as early as August 8, and classes will begin on Thursday, August 18. Shorter will host its 139th convocation on August 23.
