Cain, a native of Rome, created functional wheel-thrown ceramics and slip-cast porcelain pieces for “Two Birds, One Stone.” Each piece was fired in either electric or salt-fired kilns or the university’s Japanese Anagama wood-fired kiln, which he helped build as an undergraduate student at Shorter University.
Mills’ featured pieces include photography that runs the gamut from the cyanotype process, which was invented in 1826, to modern digital photography.
“My cyanotypes use a modified chemistry and are known as new cyanotypes,” Mills said. “The images are produced by contact-printing large digital negatives on hand-coated paper.”
Other photos by Mills in “Two Birds, One Stone” include paper prints and canvas pieces that feature 360-degree views constructed from 54 individual photographs.
With the largest installation of the show, Zorn created multiple ink drawings on paper and arranged them sporadically to span two walls of the gallery. His drawings also include four framed pieces that use pen and ink, graphite, acrylic and prism color pencil on paper.
The show is open to the public at no charge and will continue through Friday, Sept. 20. Cain and Mills will give a gallery talk at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 30. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays by appointment.
