Shorter University inducts 25 members into Alpha Chi Chapter

November 12, 2012 - Shorter University’s chapter of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society inducted 25 new members during a ceremony held Nov. 4. The students are now part of Shorter’s Alpha Chi chapter, which was recognized this spring as a Star Chapter Award winner for the second consecutive year. Shorter’s chapter was one of 25 chapters selected for this honor nationwide.

Dr. Donald L. Martin, executive vice president and provost at Shorter, was the keynote speaker during the induction ceremony, and Susanna Polley and Jahi Mims performed for the celebration.

Current officers Amanda Whigham, president; Tori Nelson, vice president; Susanna Polley, secretary; Ryan Jennings, treasurer; and April Croft, director, received Medals of Honor. The following inductees received cords of honor and pins:

Michael Abney, an ecology and field biology major from Centre, Ala.;
Courtney Bailey, an early childhood major from Huntsville, Ala.;
Nikki Baldwin, a biology and chemistry major from Adairsville, Ga.;
Jessica Bowman, a nursing major from Rainsville, Ala.;
Bricey Bradshaw, a communication major from Canton, Ga.;
Tamatha Early, a business administration major from Rome, Ga.;
Allison “Amee” Eubank, an early childhood education major from Rome, Ga.;
Johnny Frantz, a history and political science major from Shannon, Ga.;
Darlene Griffin, an English major from Carrollton, Ga.;
Kristin Griffin, an accounting major from Rome, Ga;
Kacey Hawkshead, an accounting major from Lawrenceville, Ga.;
Hannah Hughes, an early childhood education major from Albany, Ga.;
Megan Lameka, a biology major from Cedartown, Ga.;
Kristen Little, an early childhood education major from Buchanan, Ga.;
Taylor McCollum, an early childhood education major from Aragon, Ga.;
Rebecca Newell, an English major from Roopville, Ga.;
Ali Perry, a nursing major from Cedartown, Ga.;
Jenny Pilgrim, an art major from Rome, Ga.;
Amisha Rajwani, a nursing major from Rome, Ga.;
Emily Robinson, an English major from Woodstock, Ga.;
Katie Shetter, a psychology major from Summerville, Ga.;
Hannah Turner, a biology major from LaFayette, Ga.;
Nikki Warren, a psychology major from Calhoun, Ga.;
Brent West, a middle grades education major from Kingston, Ga.; and
Jessica Wright, a communication arts major from Kennesaw, Ga.

Dr. Kathi Vosevich, faculty sponsor, emphasizes that “The Alpha Chi honor society not only promotes academic excellence across all disciplines, but also exemplary character. These students are truly among the best of the best.”
Alpha Chi is a prestigious national honor society open to the top 10 percent of juniors and seniors academically. Membership is by invitation only.
