Dr. John Waters, pastor and president of Georgia Baptist Convention, welcomed as first chapel speaker at Shorter University
August 28, 2012 - Shorter University welcomed Dr. John Waters, pastor of Statesboro First Baptist Church, as guest speaker for its first chapel service of the semester. Dr. Waters has pastored FBC Statesboro since 2005 and currently serves as president of the Georgia Baptist Convention.
Dr. Waters pulled his sermon from Proverbs 3:5-6 that states: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path."
"When the world throws you into a whirlwind, grab hold of God will all of your heart, mind and soul," Dr. Waters told students, faculty and staff. "Stretch your wings and take God at His word; He will carry you along."

Prior to his appointment as pastor at Statesboro Baptist Church, Dr. Waters served as a vice president at Brewton-Parker College. He began preaching at age 19 and has pastored churches in Sylvania, Dublin and Perry, Ga., as well as churches in Texas and South Carolina.
