April 16, 2012 - The artwork of Shorter University senior art major Laura Watson is currently on display inside theuniversity’s Arnold Art Gallery. A reception for Watson will take place this evening from 6 until 7:30 p.m. in the art gallery. Titled, ““Witness: Hope in Southeast Asia,” Watson’s exhibit is presented in fulfillment of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Degree requirements at Shorter University. She utilizes digital photography to express the impact of God’s work in missions overseas. “God called me to Bangladesh in August,” Watson said. “I witnessed unbelievable amounts of poverty and devastation, but I have never been surrounded by so much love…I am a new breed of Christian artists, not merely using my beliefs in my work, but surrounding my work in what I believe. I discovered in myself the ability to connect with God and see His creation the way He intended. This work is my attempt at bringing that attachment and passion back to share.” This exhibition is free and open to the public. Viewing hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
