April 3, 2012 - The Shorter University musical theatre department will present its spring musical April 10-15 in the university’s Callaway Theatre. Shows begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. “It's the Talk of the Town: A Musical Tribute to Jerry Livingston" is a revue of Livingston hits from the 40s, 50s and 60s — music from radio, television and film including "Mairzy Doats," "The Twelfth of Never," and tunes from the Cinderella film score. The show was created by Julie Bearden, Shorter’s Assistant Professor of Music, in New York City with friends, David Flora (of the Abingdon Theatre), and Robert Vest, (Shorter class of 1990). Created for five singers and a jazz trio, it was first performed at the Triad and Laurie Beechman Theatres (on 42nd Street) by Robert and his colleagues from AMDA Conservatory for the Performing Arts in Manhattan. Bearden, a 1993 graduate of Shorter, said she is thrilled to bring this production back to her alma mater and looks forward to this new "revival" of it, which is cast for 10 singer/dancers and staged/choreographed by Georgie Hall, Shorter’s instructor of dance. Members of the cast include Jonathan Chisolm, Siobhan Gale, Kate Johnson, Kristina Kennedy, Sarah Beth Moseley, Koby Parker, Levi Penley, Maggie Salley, Jake Shadrix, and Troy Stevens . Tickets to the event are $15 general admission, $10 for seniors and students. Contact the Shorter Box Office at 706-233-7288.
