March 15, 2012 - A bright red double-decker bus pulled up in Shorter University’s front circle this morning, bringing with it an opportunity to help orphans. The bus serves as a rolling thrift store and is driven to colleges and universities across the United States. The Red Bus gives students a chance to purchase inexpensive clothing with proceeds going to help support orphans. Students are also encouraged to donate clothes that they don’t want or need to help stock the bus with clothing. Shorter University is one of 25 college and university campuses that will be visited by the Red Bus Project this spring. As part of the Red Bus Project, Shorter students will be treated to a free concert tonight by the band CALEB. CALEB was founded by Caleb Chapman, son of Christian contemporary artist Steven Curtis Chapman.
A handful of Shorter University students pose for a photo near the Red Bus, a rolling thrift shop geared towards raising money to help orphans. Students are: Kelly Lane, Brittany Thompson, campus minister David Roland, Sarah Crapse, Adam Shaner, Becca Newell, Derek Hake, Maegan Wallin and Caroline Green.
Founded in 1873, Shorter University is a Christian university committed to excellence in education. Since 2003, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Shorter among the South’s best baccalaureate colleges, and the Princeton Review annually includes Shorter on its lists of best value and best Southeastern colleges. The university offers traditional bachelor’s degrees in 48 major areas as well as undergraduate degree programs for working adults, the Master of Business Administration, the Master of Education and the Master of Arts in Leadership. General education and calculus courses are offered in an online format, and Shorter recently launched online programs that lead toward the Associate of Science, the Bachelor of Business Administration, and the Master of Accountancy degrees.
