A Georgia Baptist Institution
March 13, 2012 - Dr. Frank Cox was welcomed to the Shorter University campus as guest speaker for weekly chapel service.
The message that Dr. Cox delivered focused on defeating temptations. “Just as God has a plan for your life, Satan has a plan also. He wants to destroy the wonderful life that God has planned for you,” Dr. Cox said. “I firmly believe that there is a spiritual battle going on between God and Satan today.”
Dr. Cox provided his hearers with three scripture-based questions to ask when faced with temptation: If I do this, can I give thanks to God? (taken from 1 Thessalonians 5:18), If I do that, can I do it in the name of Jesus? (based on Colossians 3:17), and If I do this, will it bring glory to God? (taken from 1 Corinthians 10:31).
A native of Tallahassee, Fla., Dr. Cox is a graduate of Mercer University in Atlanta. He earned his Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and received his Doctor of Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary in Atlanta. Dr. Cox serves as pastor of North Metro First Baptist Church and has done so for 28 years.
Dr. Cox has held many positions of leadership including president of the Georgia Baptist Convention and first vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention. In addition to speaking Dr. Cox is a published author of Trusting God's Heart and Legacy: OneLife to Live.
