Dr. Jeff Meyers welcome as guest speaker during Shorter University's chapel service

February 22, 2012 - Dr. Jeff Meyers was welcomed as guest speaker during Shorter University’s weekly chapel service. Dr. Meyers serves as senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Conyers.

Dr. Meyers’ message was taken from the book of Judges, and centered on the story of Samson. “Compromise, though often thought of as a positive, can also be used in a negative way,” Dr. Meyers said.

There are several definitions of the word compromise; Dr. Meyers spoke on the definition that relates to an endangering or a compromise of one’s integrity.

“When you start messing around with sin, when you start to compromise and say, ‘oh I won’t go any further with this’ or ‘this won’t get out of hand’ or when you think you are tough enough that sin and compromise won’t affect you, that’s when things get out of hand. Some people say ‘I’m not hurting anyone but me,’ or ‘It’s my life,’ but compromise affects everyone around you. You are not an island; you are not the only one being affected.”

Dr. Meyers, who holds a doctoral degree in evangelism and missions, left the audience with a challenge: “If you have a hole of compromise in your heart; get it sowed up today.”
