Shorter University's Brittny Brown named as Northside Hospital Scholar

January 31, 2012 - Shorter University senior nursing student Brittny Brown has been named a Northside Hospital Scholar.

Because she has been chosen for this award, Brown is eligible for up to $10,000 in scholarship money to finish out her college career. As an additional benefit of the Scholars program, Brown signed a two-year agreement to work at Northside as a registered nurse. As part of that agreement, Brown now works part-time as a technician at Northside. In fact, Brown spent eight days over Christmas break working in the intensive care unit and in the progressive cardiac care unit.

Brown, a resident of White, Ga., is part of the first class of Shorter University School of Nursing students. She was also one of more than a dozen nursing students who traveled to Bulgaria over the summer to serve in an orphanage.

The Northside Scholars program was created to provide scholarship opportunity for high-performing nursing students. The program seeks high-achieving, well-rounded individuals who will help further the hospital's commitment to being a center of excellence in providing high-quality health care. Up to twelve students can be chosen each year, and each participant is matched with a manager mentor, who is assigned to the student and provides guidance during their remaining years in school and when they join Northside as a staff RN. Each Scholar participates in a customized job shadowing program and they rotate through different clinical services.
