Shorter University's Chorus concludes school year with annual spring concert

April 7, 2011 - Shorter University’s Chorus will present their spring concert on Saturday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Brookes Chapel. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and senior adults. Tickets may be reserved by contacting the Shorter University Box Office at (706) 233-7288 or by e-mailing boxoffice@shorter.edu.

In their spring performance, members of the Shorter Chorus celebrate the rich diversity and history of the world of choral music. The chorus will conclude their year with a concert of varied textures, languages, and tone colors designed to highlight the beauty of the musical kaleidoscope that is their art.

Conducted by Len Willingham and accompanied by Thomas Williams, a sophomore piano performance major at Shorter University, the Shorter Chorus is a 70-voice mixed ensemble that is open to any talented student at Shorter University who enjoys singing. The Chorus performs twice each semester and joins the Shorter Chorale for special events. The highest standards of choral excellence, performance practice, and professionalism are encouraged and expected.

Over the past two years, the Chorus has performed repertoires in nine languages: English, German, French, Italian, Latin (both Italianate and Germanic), Hebrew, Spanish, Russian, and Swedish. Genres explored have included the Italian canzonetta, English oratorios and carols, the Viennese mass, Jewish liturgical music, French operetta, African-American spirituals, American Broadway repertoire, and a variety of contemporary octavos.

Founded in 1873, Shorter University is a Christian University committed to excellence in education.
