Shorter University student Jasmine Habersham wins state voice competition
November 5, 2010 - Shorter University student Jasmine Habersham won the Georgia Chapter of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist Competition held recently in Augusta. Her win in Augusta comes just weeks after winning the prestigious Cheryl-Boyd Award from the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
With her statewide win Habersham will now advance to the MTNA Southern Regional competition in January 2011. She is a senior voice major from Lizella, Ga., and a vocal student of Shorter University music professor Dr. Matthew Hoch.
Habersham has spent the past two summers with the Janiec Opera Company at the Brevard Music Center and has plans to attend graduate school for vocal performance in the fall of 2011.
Habersham’s win marks the third year in a row that a Shorter University voice student has captured the Georgia chapter MTNA title. Shorter has also had five students capture national MTNA titles in the past. |
