Shorter College voice students get high marks at regional competition


April 19, 2010 - Shorter College voice students had an impressive showing at the recent Southeastern Regional National Association of Teachers of Singing held recently at Stetson University. Shorter students earned 14 awards in categories including classical performance and musical theatre.

Three students earned first place awards at the competition. These students include Trey Smagur (sophomore men division, classical performance), Jeffrey Koby Parker (freshmen men division, musical theatre) and Laura Collins (advanced college women division, musical theatre).

Bringing home second place awards were Chris Vizurraga (sophomore men, musical theatre), Tareva Moore (freshmen women division, classical performance), Hannah Freeman (sophomore women division, musical theatre) and Emily Tweedy (junior women division, musical theatre). Third-place winners were Joseph Sokohl (freshmen men division, classical performance), Hannah Freeman (sophomore women division, classical performance), Ryan O’Leary (sophomore men division, musical theatre), Evan Meisser (junior men division, musical theatre) and Michael Lindsey (senior men division, musical theatre).

Jasmine Habersham claimed a fourth-place ranking in the junior women classical performance division and Mary Diesch earned a fifth-place finish in the sophomore women classical performance division.
