Shorter College Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble to perform first concert
April 1, 2010 - The Shorter College Chamber and Wind Ensemble will perform for the very first time on Friday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. inside the college’s Brookes Chapel. The Chamber and Wind Ensemble, which will perform the concert for the public free of charge, were both created this year.
According to Dr. Andrea Strauss, Shorter’s director of bands and assistant director of instrumental activities, the ensembles have been rehearsing since January and will perform a full program of works including “Undertow” by John Mackey, “Southern Hymn” by Sam Hazo, and “Japanese Lullaby” by Keiko Yamada.
The ensembles are under the direction of Dr. Strauss. The Wind Ensemble performance will feature guest conductor Stephen Turner.
“We are so excited to present our first-ever chamber and wind ensemble performance,” said Dr. Strauss. “It is a privilege to work with such a wonderful and talented group of students.” The April 9 performance caps off an exciting semester for Shorter’s music program, as the School of the Arts recently added a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree with an emphasis in instrumental music.
Brookes Chapel is located on Shorter College’s main campus inside the Cooper Fine Arts Building. |
