Shorter College welcomes new campus safety director
January 15, 2010 - Paula Penson has been named as Shorter College’s campus safety director.
In this position, Penson is responsible for implementing a range of safety and security programs at the college, which include training of all campus safety staff and executing emergency plans as necessary. Penson is also responsible for creating and developing policies and procedures that will ensure a safe environment conducive to learning, working and living on campus.
For the past 12 years, Penson has been employed by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy sheriff. During that time, she completed more than 1,000 hours of professional training in emergency, security and safety policies and procedures. She has also been certified as a training office since 2007 and has supervised, trained and evaluated employees on job performance. Since 2002, Penson has worked during her off-duty hours for Shorter College at athletic and other campus events.
Penson is excited about the opportunity to work for Shorter and has already settled into her duties. “It’s great being here at Shorter, even though I’ve been around for a while,” Penson said, speaking about her new job title and referring to her previous employment at the college. “I am going to be visible on campus and look forward to meeting with students, faculty and staff. I want them to know that they can come to me for any reason.”
Penson’s husband, Richard, is employed with the Rome City Police Department as a K-9 officer. She has a 19-year-old stepson and a 16-year-old son. |
