Legislators visit Shorter College during higher education tour September 29 - Rep. Katie Dempsey of Rome and Rep. Bill Hembree, chairman of the House Higher Education Committee, visited Shorter College today, along with Berry College, Georgia Highlands College and Georgia Northwestern Technical College, as part of a higher education tour that highlighted Rome’s four colleges. Both Dempsey and Hembree serve on the House Higher Education Committee. Both legislators took the opportunity to learn about the colleges’ academic programs and were also able to meet with students, faculty and administrators from each institution. The day’s events will wrap up with a town hall meeting tonight at Georgia Northwestern Technical College scheduled for 7 p.m. Founded in 1873, Shorter College is a Christian college committed to excellence in education. Since 2003, U.S. News & World Report has ranked Shorter among the South’s best baccalaureate colleges. The college offers bachelor’s degrees in 48 major areas, master’s level and undergraduate degree programs for working adults, online courses, and a vibrant intercollegiate athletic program. Shorter will transition to university status June 1, 2010. For more information, visit www.shorter.edu. ###
