Shorter College slates test of emergency warning siren
September 1 - Shorter College will test its emergency warning siren on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at approximately 11:55 a.m. This is the beginning of monthly testing, which will be held on the first Wednesday of each month. In the event of inclement weather, the monthly test will be moved to the first Thursday of the month.
Shorter’s outdoor siren was installed in June 2008 to strengthen the college’s ability to communicate during emergency situations. Other than in testing situations, the siren is used only to indicate the issuance of a tornado warning for the immediate area. In cases of severe weather, individuals are advised to seek shelter immediately upon hearing the siren, which can be heard throughout Shorter’s campus and in much of the surrounding area.
