Shorter College honors faculty, staff members
 
May 8 - Shorter College faculty and staff were honored at an appreciation dinner held May 7 on the college’s campus.

Ricci Lattanzi, director of operations for Shorter College’s Athletic Department, received the staff member of the year award. The award, based on nominations from staff and faculty, is given to employees who have displayed helpfulness and encouragement to students, loyalty to the college, and effectiveness in the fulfillment of job responsibilities and cooperation in relationships with fellow employees.

Upcoming retirements were also highlighted at the appreciation dinner. Shorter College Assistant Librarian Bettie Sumner will retire in June with 37 years of service and Dr. George Thomason, English professor and chair of the English and foreign languages department, will retire with eight years of service.

Twenty faculty and staff members were recognized for their years of service to the college.

Dr. Richard Cowan, mathematics professor and department chair of math and computer science, was honored for 40 years of service to the college.

Employees recognized for 20 years of service were Dr. Pat Dewitt, director of institutional planning and research; Dr. Peter Jordan, professor of management; Brenda Newman, director of human resources and Dick Taylor, assistant vice president of facilities management.

Diane Sutton, administrative assistant of facilities management, was honored for 15 years of service to the college.

Employees recognized for 10 years of service were A.D. Adkins, campus security; Dr. Larry Baker, professor of management; Tracy Grigsby, payroll specialist; Patrick McElhaney, director of admissions; and Dr. Martha Shaw, professor of music and director of the Shorter College Chorale.

Five-year service employees were also recognized and included: Anita Baker, financial aid assistant; Dr. Jill Borchert, associate professor of psychology and chair of the psychology and sociology department; Dr. George Dupuy, professor of business management; Alan Dutch, instructor of communication; Laura McRaney, assistant director of international programs; Chip Mitchell, director of alumni services and development; Fred Tarrant, assistant professor of music and chair of the music and theatre department; Dr. Sherri Weiler, assistant professor of music and Jerry Wiley, assistant postmaster and copy technician.
