Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow event gives interview fashion tips, chance to speed network
 
March 23 - Shorter College students were given a crash course in how to dress for success at a fashion show and speed-networking event held Thursday evening inside the Fitton Student Union.

The event, hosted by Shorter’s Office of Institutional Advancement and the Career Center, featured students dressed in trendy interview-appropriate attire on loan from Rome’s local Belk department store. Students and staff members performed a “What Not to Wear” comedy skit that highlighted the dos and don’ts of job interview etiquette before the fashion show began.

Robin Thacker, ladies area sales manager at Belk, emceed the event and gave tips on how to dress for an interview and mistakes to avoid. Students who served as models during the show included Michael Bruce, Rebecca Lewis, Mary Kate Lollar, Remy Charpentier, Emily Thomas, Kyle Timberlake, Megan Ware and Laura Watson.

After the show, students participated in a speed-networking activity with Rome business leaders and professionals. Students were able to ask questions about careers and the business world, and were also given the chance to have their resumés reviewed by professionals. Members of the Rome business community participating in the event included Shorter graduates Craig Brewster (’99), Dr. Kyle Carney (’01), Haley Crider (’92), Lee Ann Head (’87), Cal Hicks (’03) and Brooks Mathis (’05).

Community sponsors of the event were Belk, King and Queen Salon, Cheri’s Corner Nails by Ri, Fantasy Hair Salon and California Nails.
