Shorter students score high at voice competition

March 2 - Shorter College students made an impressive showing at a recent Georgia National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition held at Kennesaw State University.

Shorter’s overall final winners were Laura Collins and Emily Tweedy, Evan Meisser and Richard Smagur. Collins and Tweedy are both students of Dr. Linda Lister. Meisser is taught by Dr. Matthew Hoch, and Smagur is a student of Dr. Brian Nedvin.

The college also had several semi-finalists. They included first-place winners Hannah Freeman and Ryan O’Leary; second-place winners Chelsea Cross, Mary Diesch, E.J. Laird, John Carucci, Christina Sidlow, Grace Nelson, Eliza Bonet, Mariel Villareal and Michael Lindsey. Third-place winners included Sarah Dunham, Alejandra Guillen, Harris Wheeler Jr., Justin Maxey, Jasmine Habersham, Michelle Austin, Jessica Little, Rachel Roby and Sarah Brackett.
