Shorter College student honored with fraternity award

January 29 - Shorter College senior Justin Davis was recently honored for his service to the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity. Davis, a piano pedagogy major from Jasper, received the Olin G. Parker Leadership Award for increasing the membership of Shorter’s Zeta Epsilon chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia from one member to nine. “This award will underscore Phi Mu Alpha’s importance to Shorter College,” said Davis. “The Shorter School of the Arts is a wonderful institution and deserves an upstanding fraternity like Phi Mu Alpha.”

Phi Mu Alpha is a collegiate social fraternity for men with an interest in music. The fraternity currently has 223 active collegiate chapters, 13 colonies, and 13 area alumni associations throughout the United States. More than 150,000 men have been initiated into Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia since its founding in 1898, making it the largest and oldest society in music.

Davis is president of Phi Mu Alpha and studies piano.
