Shorter Soccer Player Tamar Watson Injured in One-vehicle Accident

January 5, 2009 - Shorter College is saddened to report that student Tamar Watson was injured in a one-vehicle accident on the outskirts of Port-of-Spain, Trinidad on January 4. Watson, a member of the Shorter women’s soccer team, is in critical condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

The accident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning, when the driver Giselle Salandy, hit a culvert and the car was sent into one of the concrete pillars that supports the Beetham Highway Flyover. Salady, who was killed in the accident, was a world-class female boxer and close friend of Watson, who is a former member of the national U-20 Trinidad and Tobago team.

“We extend our deepest thoughts and prayers to those injured in the accident and to their families,” said Shorter president Dr. Harold E. Newman.
