Page gives Middle Eastern insight during presentation at Shorter
Biblical archaeological expert Dr. Charles R. Page, II. was a guest speaker at Shorter College on Monday, Oct. 6.
Page, the academic dean of the Jerusalem Institute for Biblical Exploration, spoke to students about the differences in Middle Eastern and Western cultures.
Having taught thousands of students in courses in Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Greece and Turkey, he has been excavating sites in the Middle East since 1968. He has led and participated in excavations in Tel Arad, Beersheva, Beth Shean, Bethsaida, Har Karkom and Kursi/Gergesa.

Page, a native of Tennessee, developed his love for Middle Eastern culture and archeology while stationed there as a member of the United States Air Force.
He attended the University of Tennessee, where he concentrated his studies in the Bible, anthropology and Middle Eastern culture. In graduate school and seminary, he focused on the Bible, archeology and anthropology. He later received his doctorate in Biblical archaeology.

As part of its study abroad program, Shorter College will offer students the chance to be a part of an archaeological excavation in Kursi in May 2009.
The excavation will be led in part by Page. Dr. Alan D. Hix, chair of the department of religion and philosophy and associate professor of religion at Shorter, and Dr. James Scarry, assistant professor of history at Shorter, will lead the student program.
