Shorter College’s Peter DeWitt to Present Faculty Recital

Organist Peter DeWitt will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, in Shorter College’s Brookes Chapel. The recital is open to the public at no charge.

Dr. DeWitt’s program, titled “The Art of Opera Transcription,” will feature numerous works for harpsichord and organ by Handel, Lully, Rameau and Wagner. In addition to transcriptions for the harpsichord and organ of overtures, dances and arias, faculty members Dr. Kirsten Kunkel, Dr. Sherri Weiler, Dr. Linda Lister, Dr. Matt Hoch and Joy Rotz will be performing scenes and arias from the operas Radamistus and Rinaldo by Handel, Armide by Lully, Les Indes galantes (including a Chorus) by Rameau and Tannhäuser by Wagner.

Dr. DeWitt, professor of music,is coordinator of music theory and chair of the Department of Music and college organist. He was president of the Southeastern Historical Keyboard Society from spring 2000 to 2002. He has performed on harpsichord, piano, and organ soloist and ensemble player throughout the Southeastern United States and in Europe. In Fall 2000, he presented the complete four volumes of Clavierubung by Bach in five consecutive recitals in several venues.
