Shorter College professor to compete in Beijing’s Paralympics

Shorter College’s incoming assistant professor of sports management, Dr. Jennifer Ruddell, will leave for Beijing, China, on Wednesday, Aug. 13, to compete in the 2008 Paralympics Games in women’s wheelchair basketball. In the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens, Greece, Ruddell earned a gold medal for women’s wheelchair basketball with the USA National Team.

“I am ready to compete in Beijing,” said Ruddell. “I am also looking forward to sharing my experiences with Shorter students when I get back to campus.”

Upon her return from the 2008 Games, she will serve on the faculty of Shorter’s School of Business Administration. Ruddell has taught in a wide variety of sports management, recreation/leisure and kinesiology classes on the collegiate level. She also has experiences with professional, collegiate, international and youth sports, all of which equip her to provide unique internship and career advice to Shorter students.

“We are very fortunate to have Jennifer join Shorter’s faculty,” said Dr. Robert “Dub” Darville, dean of the School of Business Administration. “We are equally excited about her efforts in Beijing, and we will be cheering for her and the U.S. team!”
