Shorter College Honors Employees
Faculty and staff members of Shorter College were honored during the annual appreciation dinner held May 1. Eric Hall, systems administrator in information technology, received the 2008 Staff Member of the Year award for his outstanding service to the college during the 2007-08 academic year.
One of his nomination letters explained, “He embodies the Christian work ethic in everything he does. He is always willing to help, he makes personal sacrifices to see that his work is done well, and he does everything with a big smile.”
Hall has worked at Shorter for three years. In his role as systems administrator, he works with the network engineer to maintain hardware infrastructure, oversees computer lab operations and manages information technology student workers. He previously served as the college’s Web master. A Rome native, he holds a Bachelor of Science in information technology from Southern Polytechnic State University.

Service awards were also given to 24 faculty and staff members. Mary Lee Chubbs, housekeeper, was recognized for 45 years with the college, and Dr. Craig Allee, dean of the School of Sciences and Mathematics, was recognized for his 40 years of service. Dr. Alan Wingard, dean of the School of the Arts, and Dr. Meighan Johnson, professor of sociology, were both recognized for 35 years of service to the college.
A 25-year service award was given to Gary Davis, postmaster. Employees recognized for 20 years of service were Linda Allee, campus store manager; Dr. Martine Cremers-Pearson, associate professor of French; and Dr. Steve Sheeley, assistant vice president for academic records and advising. Dr. Dean Turner, associate professor of chemistry, was recognized for 15 years of service, and 10-year awards were presented to Orville Adams, head tennis coach; Dr. Debra Faust, vice president for student affairs and dean of students; and Michael Wilson, Professional Studies librarian.
Five-year service awards were presented to Sheila Byron, Professional Studies coordinator of student relations; Jean Goffaux, chorale assistant; Nancy Graham, Professional Studies assistant dean of students and academic advisor; Ahmad Hayat, head golf coach; Dr. John Head, vice president for enrollment management; Joan Ledbetter, career development coordinator; Jeanne McDade, executive assistant to the vice president for student affairs and dean of students; Dr. Chuck Pearson, assistant professor of physics; Betsie Potasz, Professional Studies registrar; Suzanne Scott, senior director of development; and Dr. Theunis van Aardt, associate professor of chemistry.
