Online journal chronicles experiences of Shorter College group studying in Israel during Spring Break

Fifteen Shorter College students are on a 10-day study-abroad trip to Israel led by Dr. Robert Wallace, assistant professor of religion and the college’s director of international programs. Joining him in leading the trip is Dr. Chuck Pearson, assistant professor of physics.

The “Travels in Biblical Lands” trip features visits to key locales of historical and biblical significance. The trip is the culmination of an extended learning experience. Their pre-trip studies included learning 40 cities and geographic regions within Israel as well as the history and significance of the featured sites.

Shorter College’s Assistant Director of Institutional Relations Tracy Batchelor is traveling with the group and compiling an online journal of their experiences. Visitors to the Shorter College Web site, www.shorter.edu, can keep up with the group’s progress by clicking on the “Israel 2008 Online Journal” button.

Other organized Spring Break activities include two mission trips. Campus Minister David Roland and Dr. Alan Hix, assistant professor of religion, are leading a group of Shorter College students to Western Canada, where they will build relationships with area you, participate in prayer walks and take part in activities at a local college. In addition, Dr. John Head, vice president of enrollment management, and Whitney Moseley, student life coordinator, are leading a team of students that will volunteer in New Orleans to rebuild areas damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
