Pianist David Oliver to Perform Faculty Recital Feb. 25
Pianist David Oliver will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, in Shorter College’s Brookes Chapel. The recital is open to the public at no charge.
Dr. Oliver’s program will include music by composers Scarlatti, Beethoven, Debussy and Ginastera. Dating from 1754 to 1952, the program selections will include strong elements of Spain.
Dr. Oliver, associate professor of music at Shorter College, is the college’s keyboard coordinator. He grew up in Cali, Colombia, where his parents were missionaries. He holds degrees in piano performance from Baylor University, the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Minnesota. His accomplishments include semi-finalist in the third Adilia Alieva International Piano Competition in Gaillard, France, in 2002; first place in the 1984 Josef Hofmann International Piano Competition in Philadephia; and first place at the 1983 Baylor University Piano Concerto Competition in Waco.
