Shorter College Reorganizes Institutional Advancement Staff

In an effort to more effectively serve alumni and friends of Shorter College, the college has reorganized the responsibilities of three institutional advancement staff members. Roger “Chip” Mitchell has been promoted to director of alumni services and development. Suzanne Scott has been named senior director of development. Stephanie Graves is now the director of foundation relations and special events.

Chip Mitchell ('02)In Mitchell’s new role, he is responsible for the overall office of alumni affairs, including alumni events, alumni records, reports and profiles. Mitchell also serves as the liaison with Shorter’s Alumni Governing Board, and he supervises institutional advancement student workers.

Mitchell has served for more than four years in Shorter’s Office of Institutional Advancement. Most recently, he served as director of advancement services and phone-a-thon coordinator. A 2002 graduate of Shorter, he holds dual degrees in church music and music education; he is also pursuing a Master of Business Administration through Shorter’s Professional Studies program. Mitchell serves as the interim minister of music at Fifth Avenue Baptist in Rome.

Scott continues to lead the fundraising efforts of the Friends of the Arts programs, the chamber and local businesses. She also works with alumni who have celebrated their 50 th class reunion.

A 1974 Shorter graduate, Scott majored in church music, and she later earned a Master of Music from the University of Georgia. She is an active member of many local civic groups including the Seven Hills Rotary Club and the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Scott serves as the children’s choir director and coordinator at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. Graves now serves as the primary grant writer and foundation researcher for the institutional advancement office. She also continues to plan special events for the college. Graves has served on Shorter’s institutional advancement staff for more than two years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in communication and journalism from Samford University and a Master of Arts in leadership from Shorter College.
