Shorter College Announces Emergency Notification System
Shorter College has adopted a new notification system that enables the school to send urgent news to students, faculty and staff who register for the service. Known as Shorter2U, Shorter’s system can be utilized to provide alerts regarding emergency situations, severe weather advisories and school closings.
Shorter2U is powered by e2Campus, a leading mass-notification system for colleges and universities. It enables school officials to send alerts directly to registered subscribers’ email accounts and mobile phones via SMS text messages. Options are also available for subscribers to receive the alerts via RSS, wireless PDA, and “My Yahoo,” “My AOL,” or personalized iGoogle home pages.
“Although Shorter2U is an excellent system that can notify the entire campus within minutes, it only works if students, faculty and staff take a minute to register in the system,” said Terry Wheeler, director of campus safety. All students, faculty and staff at Shorter’s campuses in Rome, Lawrenceville, North Atlanta and Riverdale are encouraged to sign up.
The notification system will be used to communicate important information during any potential emergency, such as a snow delay or closing, homeland security advisory, or weather warning.
