Hawks and Lady Hawks Soccer Sweep Emmanuel
The Shorter College men’s and women’s soccer teams swept their way past visiting Emmanuel College on Monday night at Grizzard Park, with the Lady Hawks winning 3-0 and the Hawks earning a 7-1 victory.
Both games were Southern States Athletic Conference matches.
In the women’s match, Shorter (2-4, 1-2) got a goal from Pauline Van Der Henst in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, Jessica Hinchman scored off a pass from Van Der Henst and Racine Romain knocked in a rebound for the last two goals.
The Lady Hawks had 11 shots on goal to just two for Emmanuel.
Corrie McIravey-Davidson picked up the shutout in goal.
In the men’s game, Shorter’s Robert Whitnell got the Hawks on the board early off an assist from Jerome Toby, but Emmanuel tied the score in the 25th minute.
Whitnell scored shortly before halftime off a pass from Joe Grainger to make it 2-1 at the break.
In the second half, Sam Norman scored twice for the Hawks (1-4, 1-1), while Anthony O’Garro, Kyle Timberlake and Dallas Dickerson each added solo goals.
Dickerson had three assists in the second half, while Timberlake and Brian Arnold each added one.
Thomas Fulton had six saves in goal for the Hawks.
Shorter travels to Faulkner on Friday for another SSAC doubleheader, with the women playing at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m.
