Lattanzi Named Interim Commissioner of Southern States Athletic Conference

Following the retirement of longtime Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Commissioner Bill Ensley, Shorter College Director of Operations Ricci Lattanzi has been named the interim commissioner. Ensley retired at the close of the 2007 school year following over 20 years of leadership. "I look forward to serving in this position for the next few months and possibly on a more permanent basis," said Lattanzi. "I met with Ensley earlier this summer about the commissioner's position and he was very helpful and patient with me as we discussed different aspects of the job. He gave me tons of folders full of SSAC information and much direction in dealing with the NAIA."

Dr. Thomas Isherwood, president of Reinhardt College and the Chair of the President¹s Committee for the SSAC, has been a key member in helping to develop a strategic plan for the conference, which includes future commissioner plans and changes.

"I am very appreciative of Ricci and his new roll, and are confident of his abilities," said Isherwood. "The SSAC is undergoing a strategic planning process where his leadership has been vital."

Isherwood said he hopes to see the strategic plan complete in December or January and a search for a full-time commissioner will be underway at that time.

While interim commissioner, Lattanzi will continue to function as Shorter College's Director of Operations.
