Shorter College Honors Teachers of the Year 
Two Shorter College faculty members were recognized for their outstanding work throughout this academic year during Shorter’s commencement exercises on May 5.
Dr. Carmen Acevedo Butcher, associate professor of English, was awarded the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching and Scholarship. Recognized also as the 2006 Georgia Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, Dr. Butcher earned her Ph.D. and master’s degree from the University of Georgia. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Shorter College. Serving as the college’s scholar in residence, she has recently published four books and has served on Shorter’s faculty since 2002.

Mrs. Jennifer Kellogg Sikes, assistant professor of English, was awarded the Vulcan Materials Company Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award. Sikes earned a Bachelor of Arts from Shorter College and a master’s degree from Clemson University. She has been a member of Shorter’s faculty since 2001; in addition to her teaching responsibilities, she has served as director of Shorter’s writing center and faculty adviser to Shorter’s literary magazine, The Chimes.
