Shorter College Prepares to Begin Construction of 48-Bed Residence Hall
Shorter College announced today that it has signed a contract with Pinson’s Inc. of Rome to construct a new residence hall on the college’s Rome campus. The estimated cost of constructing and furnishing the residence hall is $2.644 million; $1 million of the funds has been provided by the Georgia Baptist Convention.
The three-story apartment-style building will provide living space for an additional 48 students, according to Shorter College President Harold E. Newman. “The residence hall construction project is a symbol of the positive growth of Shorter College. In the fall of 2006, we had 1,046 students enrolled in our traditional programs, which filled our existing residence halls to capacity. This new construction will allow us to be prepared for the 1,100 students we anticipate for Fall 2007,” Dr. Newman said.
The new residence hall will be located behind the Sheffield-Thompson building and west of Roberts Hall. Construction is expected to begin immediately with a target date for completion set at Aug. 15, 2007.
