Men's and Women's Basketball split matches with Southern Wesleyan
In Tuesday's basketball showdown with Southern Wesleyan, the Hawks and Lady Hawks each had close games, but only one was able to pull through with the win.
The SWU Lady Warriors jumped out to an early 20-0 lead in the first half and led 38-24 at the half. The lead was short-lived as the Lady Hawks (6-3, 2-1) hit 56% from the field and picked up the win 69-64.
Southern Wesleyan could do no wrong in the first half as they took advantage of Shorter's cold shooting and utilized a fast break offense for numerous easy layups. The second half was a reversal of fortune for both teams. SWU hit just 32% from the field and finished the game at 11% from the three point line as they were 4-35.
Amanda Crane had 13 points for Shorter and Heather Kilgore contributed 12 in the win.Rebounding was close as both teams were in the mid 30's with Shorter taking the slight advantage at 35-33.
The Southern Wesleyan men held on for a conference win over Shorter (2-7, 2-1), leading 44-35 at the half and holding on for the 78-75 win.
Shorter had four players in double figures including Jack Richey with 12. Richey also posted 14 rebounds in the loss.
SWU shot 45% from the field for the game and held a furious Shorter rally as the Hawks shot a blistering 64% from the field in their comeback attempt in the second half.
