Traquair named Region XIII and SSAC Soccer Player of the Week
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) announced yesterday that Shorter College’s Ciaran Traquair has been named the Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for Region XIII and the SSAC.
Traquair, a senior from Coatbridge, Scotland, is a co-captain of the team in his fourth year of play. In this week’s games, he scored the only goal in Shorter’s 1-0 win against conference opponent Reinhardt, and assisted on both goals in their 2-0 win against nationally ranked #24 University of the Cumberlands. Traquair is now at 13 assists on the year, the highest for any player in the NAIA.
“It’s been a building process since my first year and we’re finally getting what we deserve,” said Traquair. “All of the guys I play with are in the game and understand how we need to play as a team.”
Head Coach Josh Severns, who in addition to coaching the men, took over the girls’ team this year, has coached Traquair for two years and has seen his development and improvement first hand. “[Ciaran’s] having a tremendous year and has been extremely consistent for us,” said Severns. “He’s proving why he’s one of our leaders and does it by example which is very important. The advantage he’s had all year is being able to see where the team is and contributing exactly where he needs to.”
