To add to the list of accomplishments on the year, the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) announced today that Shorter College’s Kate Puckett has been named their Volleyball Player of the Week. This announcement comes on the heels of the volleyball program’s 11th and 12th straight win over the weekend and a 13-1 record on the season.

“The team has been great to work this year,” said Puckett. “We’re coming to games looking for every point and hope to keep this same momentum for the rest of the season.”

Puckett played in 15 games over the past seven days, racking up 45 kills, 21 total blocks, 34 digs and 78 total attempts.

“Kate’s done a great job all year and it’s good to see her finally getting recognized for her hard work,” said Head Coach Jon Moseley.

The volleyball team travels tonight to face Toccoa Falls.

Bud Keith

After an impressive game against Campbellsville on Saturday, Bud Keith, defensive back for Shorter College, was named the Mid-South Conference Football (NAIA) Defensive Player of the Week.

Keith, a second-year standout from Stephens County High School, had 10 total tackles for the Hawks (4-1 overall, 2-0 conferencce), 5 solo and 5 assisted. In the fourth quarter, he helped seal the Hawks’ win over the Tigers, 38-17, by intercepting a pass and returning it 77 yards for a touchdown.

“He’s played consistent since he came on the team,” said Head Coach Phil Jones. “He’s not only a good player, but a great person who is deserving of this award. You can look at his outstanding academics and see that he works hard, and in football, you can see that he hits hard.”

The Hawks play their second home game this weekend against Pikeville College, after being away for four straight games.
