The Shorter University Museum & Archives is the repository for historical material pertaining to Shorter University – from its beginning as Cherokee Baptist Female College to its current status as Shorter University. Housed in the J. Robert Eubanks Welcome Center, the collections of the Shorter University Museum & Archives include historic documents, photographs, scrapbooks, publications of the institution, artifacts, and textiles that tell the story of this unique institution. A small museum with exhibits relating to the development of the institution is available for viewing. In addition to these collections, the welcome center contains the Eubanks Gallery, with exhibits collected from the travels of Robert and Hazel Eubanks, including African and Indian safaris. The impressive gallery with its vaulted ceiling also contains Mr. Eubanks’ collections of Native American artifacts and early American tools.
Hours The Shorter University Museum & Archives is open to the public Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. The Museum & Archives is closed during university holidays. In order to provide researchers with the best service, research appointments are recommended. Call or e-mail the director to schedule an appointment: 706-233-7891 or rroberts@shorter.edu.
