    OFFICE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides support for faculty, staff and students in the areas of academic computing, administrative computing, institutional relations, media services, training, and support solutions.

Shorter College maintains a network infrastructure that connects all academic buildings and residence halls while providing faculty, staff, and students Internet access from any computer on all four campuses. Each classroom and office has a minimum of one dedicated data port. Each residence hall room is equipped with dedicated, high-speed internet access on a “port per pillow” ratio. In addition to cabling and data ports in all classrooms, wireless access points throughout the campus allow Internet access wirelessly with laptop or notebook PCs. Strategic placement of these access points grants Internet access in all classrooms and most common student areas such as the courtyards and cafeteria.

Shorter College’s network provides users with a wide range of campus computing resources including the SCHOLAR web portal, the Shorter College Homepage for Online Learning and Academic Resources, a central point of reference for all campus community members. The SCHOLAR portal allows students, faculty and staff to view announcements, bulletins, calendars, class schedules, links, user groups, personal account information and email in conjunction with a learning management system and other in-house applications such as the Shorter College Helpdesk and Email. You only need to log in with your SCHOLAR ID and pin to have access to these and other valuable resources from anywhere in the world. Each student, faculty and staff member receives his or her account information and SCHOLAR ID upon arrival to campus. For security reasons, this information should be kept confidential.

OIT HELPDESK

The Shorter College Helpdesk, located in the Office of Information Technology suite in the basement of Sheffield-Thompson, serves as the central contact point for all OIT services. To request technical assistance - including hardware or software problems, repairs to Shorter College equipment, or Email problems - faculty, staff, and students can open a helpdesk ticket online.

To open a ticket, go to http://scholar.shorter.edu and click on the HELPDESK link under the “Campus Resources.” You will need your SCHOLAR ID and PIN to submit a ticket. If you do not have a SCHOLAR ID and PIN or have general questions, you can contact the Helpdesk at 706-233-7400 or 1-800-868-6980 extension 7400. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
