The Georgia Baptist Health Care Ministry Foundation recently presented Shorter College President Dr. Harold E. Newman with a $125,000 grant to purchase equipment for the simulation lab at the School of Nursing. Among the simulators to be purchased with the GBHCF award is a virtual venipuncture simulator, an interactive simulation of the intravenous system that will provide instant feedback. The system is so realistic that the virtual patients will respond with bleeding, bruising, swelling and other reactions. Also to be purchased with this grant is a childbearing manikin for instruction in caring for a woman during labor. Dr. Newman accepts a check from Arnold Johnson

“The application of patient care technology and simulation is one of the most important trends in nursing education today,” said Dr. Vanice Roberts, dean of the School of Nursing. “A technologically enhanced learning environment and Patient Simulation Laboratory will provide Shorter College nursing students the opportunity to practice their classroom learning in a safe simulated environment prior to direct patient contact.”
