If you weren’t on the Hill for Homecoming, then you missed out on a great chance to reunite with classmates, show your Shorter spirit and just have fun. From the annual alumni baseball game to a laugh-out -loud comedy skit, the weekend was packed with “true blue” things to do. A hearty congratulations goes out to David Chester (’73) of Gainesville on winning the Shorter College Alumni Association Treasure Chest Raffle.

Campus visitors get a dose of “Hill Hospitality”

The Shorter welcome mat was rolled out not just once, but twice during the last few weeks, as the campus greeted state legislators and consuls from 10 nations to the Hill. On Sept. 24, economic officials, business leaders and consuls from around the world were given the chance to see Shorter through their own eyes. The visitors enjoyed lunch and a performance by the Shorter College Chorale.

On Oct. 4, Georgia legislators were given the inside scoop on the current happenings on campus. Legislators were treated to a performance by the theatre department and the Shorter College Chorale. They also listened to academic presentations from several college departments and were able to network with Shorter students.

Professional Studies celebrates 17 years

Students, faculty and staff of Shorter College’s Professional Studies Program had reason to celebrate during week of Oct. 12, as they marked 17 years of helping working professionals reach their dream of a college degree. Fun and fellowship filled the week, as celebrations were held at each campus – Rome, Riverdale, Lawrenceville and North Atlanta.

A group of Professional Studies students also showed their school spirit by bundling up and braving the cold to take part in a tailgating party before the Shorter Hawks Homecoming game on Oct. 17. The tailgating party was the first of its kind for the Professional Studies program and is one that will hopefully become a new tradition for our adult students.

Hearing that the family needed help and working with the Rome-Floyd County Habitat for Humanity, the Shorter BCM stepped in.
