September 7: (Christian Focus Week)

September 6 through September 12

I’m not completely comfortable with the phrase “Christian Focus Week.” It seems to imply that we can focus on Christ for a week, and then forget about him. Nevertheless, I think we all agree that we could give God more of our time. The average Christian college student, for instance, spends 35 hours per week on social media networks and only about 5 to 10 minutes per day praying and reading the Bible. Therefore, a “Christian Focus Week” seems justifiable. Consequently, Shorter University is encouraging you to participate in the following special and daily events.

• Tony Nolan is one of our nation’s best communicators. If you have a non-Christian friend, this is the week to invite them to chapel. Tony was born to a homeless, mentally ill prostitute who was placed in a mental institution. After his birth, Tony was immediately put in foster care where he suffered unspeakable abuse at the hands of his own foster parents.

• What : FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) dinner and kickoff.

• Speaker : Siran Stacy

• Siran Stacy struggled with depression, anger, and his own faith after his wife and four of his children were killed by a drunk driver. Now, the former Alabama running back urges others to keep the faith.
