THE 2009 NATS INTERN PROGRAM
June 9-19, 2009
Shorter University is proud to have been selected as the host institution of the 2009 NATS Intern Program. The NATS Intern Program is one of the most important annual events sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). For ten days in June, 24 voice students from the Shorter University community will work with twelve talented voice teachers from across the United States. Each of these talented young pedagogues will be mentored by four nationally-renowned Master Teachers. The program will consist of daily voice lessons, master classes, presentations by visiting artists on a variety of voice related topics, and performances. All afternoon and evening events will be open to the public.
The Director of the NATS Intern Program is Martha Randall, Past President of NATS and Lecturer in Voice and Vocal Pedagogy at the University of Maryland. Dr. Matthew Hoch, Assistant Professor of Music at Shorter College will host the program, assisted by Dr. Linda Lister, Associate Professor of Music. Dr. Hoch is a 2006 alumnus of the NATS Intern Program at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and Dr. Lister is a 1996 alumna of the NATS Intern Program at Ohio State University. Dr. John Ramsaur, Professor Emeritus of Music at Shorter College, was selected as a Master Teacher for the 2001 NATS Intern Program at the University of Dayton.

NATS Interns 2009
The NATS Intern Program is an exciting and innovative venture that seeks to pair experienced and recognized master teachers of voice with talented young members of NATS. Within a format designed to promote the dynamic exchange of ideas and techniques, the goal is to improve substantially the studio teaching skills of these promising young teachers. Each intern will teach four lessons to two students (preferably one male and one female) and perform in a master class under the supervision of a master teacher. The Interns’ tuition expenses for this program are completely covered by NATS, Inc., and the NATS Foundation.
